Belkin Router Slow Download Speed Fix

Belkin Router Slow Download Speed Fix
I bought a new Belkin N150 router to work with my new Vonage phone adapter and noticed significant download speed drop off’s. If you are experiencing slow download speeds with your new router, turning off QoS and WMM support seems to fix the issue.
This fix works with other router manufacturers as well, however the login process and location of the settings vary, so check with the manufacturer or use Google.
1. Log in to the router.
Type: http://router in the address bar of the web browser. Also typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar works as well. Login using a “blank” password by clicking submit with nothing in the password field. The router ships with a blank password, if you set a password, log in with that.
2. Turn off the setting in question.
The setting is located under the Wireless Channel and SSID settings on the Belkin router at the very bottom. 802.11e/WMM QoS set this to “OFF”.
FYI what this setting does:
WMM is apparently an 802.11e feature that provides higher priority for “time-dependent” traffic, such as video or voice. In theory, this should make things like VoIP calls and video chat (e.g. Skype) perform better. In practice, having it enabled destroyed my Wi-Fi download speeds. Since I disabled it, my Wi-Fi is blazing fast and I’ve seen no negative side-effects.
